The Village of Brooklyn

The village of Brooklyn is situated in the heart of the Irish Hills, an area renowned for its lush, rolling countryside. Once primarily a summer vacation destination for Detroit residents, today Brooklyn holds year-round appeal for visitors.

Nestled between three lakes just off U.S. Highway 12 and surrounded by more than 50 lakes within a 10-mile radius, Brooklyn is known as the "Heart of the Lakes." Three of these lakes – Wamplers Lake, Clark Lake and Vineyard Lake – feature waterfront parks to ensure visitors both summer and winter fun.

Michigan International Speedway

Michigan International Speedway (MIS) offers some of America's best racing action on its 1,400-plus acres. Since opening in 1968, MIS has expanded and improved tremendously to become the largest sports arena in Michigan, with over 137,000 seats. Recent renovation projects include new ticket gates, vendor and display areas, concession stands, a new sound system and a new skylounge structure with 16 suites.

MIS hosts two NASCAR race weekends each year, drawing thousands of racing fans from around the state and across the country. Brooklyn and nearby towns offer a variety of lodging options, and fans can also camp on the track's property or in nearby campgrounds.

The 2-mile speedway's wide, 73-foot turns and 18-degree banking make MIS a favorite track among drivers contending for NASCAR fame. After more than 40 years of improvements and updates, Michigan International Speedway continues its tradition as one of the country's premier racing facilities.

Wine Country

Sample award-winning wines in a gorgeous setting as you explore the Southeast Michigan Pioneer Wine Trail, which traverses the Irish Hills. Just south of the Village of Brooklyn, Cherry Creek Old Schoolhouse Winery & Fudgery on US-12 invites visitors to sample wines in their historic 1870 schoolhouse. John and Denise Burtka's destination for wine lovers also offers fresh homemade butter fudge and cherry preserves, locally roasted coffee and organic and gourmet delicacies.

Walker Tavern Historic Complex and Cambridge Junction Historic State Park

Walker's farmhouse and tavern were once welcome sights for weary travelers making the journey between Detroit and Chicago. In the mid 1800s, this trek meant a strenuous five-day stagecoach trip, and the Federal-style white clapboard home you see today was a favorite stagecoach stop. You can learn about Michigan's frontier settlements at this home and New England-style farm located in the Cambridge Junction Historic State Park. Exhibits and walking tours are just the beginning of the many events staged here throughout the year. Open Memorial Day through Labor Day.
