Birds in Jackson

Bird Watching at the Dahlem Center

The John and Mary Dahlem Environmental Education Center is the perfect place to view the birds of Jackson County. Vibrant gardens, verdant forests, rambling marshes and rolling meadows—a variety of habitats extending over 300 acres create an ideal lure for birds.

Explore the 5 miles of hiking trails on your own, or learn more about the birds, ecosystems, animals, insects and plants on a guided hike. Opportunities to experience memorable exhibits and year-round educational programs mean you may come to the Dahlem Center for the birds, and stay for the other natural wonders. There’s even a gift shop where you can buy locally-grown birdseed and much more!

Everyone at the Dahlem Center is passionate about protecting our planet. Linked to the Center, the Dahlem Conservancy is a public, non-profit organization that provides environmental education and land conservancy services. Specifically, the Dahlem Conservancy is committed to taking a proactive approach to protecting wetlands and other natural features that birds of all kinds depend on in South Central Michigan.
